Kelsey Van Selous, MSW, LCSW is currently a PhD student in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies with Iowa State University. Originally from New Jersey, she has her bachelor’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University in Sociology. Kelsey moved to Colorado following her undergraduate degree and began her career in mental health services as a direct care professional in an adolescent residential treatment facility. She moved to Philadelphia and pursued her Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Kelsey earned her License in Clinical Social Work, where she worked with children between the ages of 2 and 6 diagnosed with autism enrolled in specialized autism services for several years in Philadelphia. Kelsey decided to pursue her Ph.D. due to her interest in applying data science to improve access and delivery of mental health services. Kelsey is currently working towards a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) certificate and is interested in topics related to economic vulnerability, substance use, and access to mental health providers.
